CLOSED-CELL FOAM. CLOSED-CELL POLYURETHANE FOAM INSULATION. Closed-cell polyurethane foam is an excellent choice for thermal insulation due to its low thermal conductivity (λ = 0.021 W/(m-K)) and its ability to be adapted to different structures.
This foam fills all cracks and voids that can cause heat loss. They have more than 90% closed pores and are used in a variety of applications such as walls, roofs and foundations.
They have a service life of over 40 years and can have up to twice the thermal resistance of other insulation materials on the market. In addition, they are environmentally friendly as they are free of harmful substances and resistant to mould and rodents. It is the optimal solution for industrial buildings and other structures where maximum heat retention is important.
What is polyurethane foam?
Polyurethane foam is the latest in airtight insulation, guaranteeing airtightness and excellent thermal resistance of insulated structures. Polyurethane foam can be divided into open and closed pore polyurethane. Both open and closed cell polyurethane is composed of two components: isocyanate and polyol.
Open and closed-cell polyurethane foams are suitable for the insulation of residential, commercial, commercial, industrial and administrative buildings. It is suitable for the insulation of exterior and interior walls, partitions, ceilings, shelters, etc. Closed-cell polyurethane is suitable for the insulation of foundations, flat roofs and other non-standard structures. Closed-cell polyurethane is also suitable for swimming pools, saunas, special-purpose facilities (e.g. vegetable storage, cold rooms) due to its low vapour permeability.
Polyurethane foam is a homogeneous material with no joints. Both open-pore and closed-pore polyurethane foams fill even the smallest cracks, leaving no gap between the insulation surface and the insulation material, so that the structure is fully insulated. It also adheres to any surface other than polyethylene. Of these insulation materials, closed-cell polyurethane foam is the strongest, insulates structures better, and resists air and water vapour penetration. Closed-pore polyurethane foam has a higher density but requires more material than open-pore polyurethane foam and is therefore more expensive. Open-cell polyurethane foam has better sound insulation and is certainly superior to glass wool and ecovat.
- It saves a lot of money on heating costs, as the tightness of polyurethane makes it extremely efficient in retaining heat;
- Polyurethane foam provides excellent sound insulation;
- Saves time as the surface can be finished immediately after insulation;
- Even hard-to-reach areas can be insulated;
- Insulation work is very fast;
- Airtightness – this feature traps most of the heat that escapes from the room. The polyurethane foam adheres to the surfaces to be insulated, fills all leaks and forms a seamless, tight layer that protects the building not only from heat escaping, but also from warm air leakage through the structure.
- Efficiency – a thinner layer saves significantly more heat than a layer twice the thickness of other insulation materials. A 2.5 cm layer of polyurethane already gives a leak-proof effect.
- Easy to insulate – no special preparation of the surfaces to be insulated is required, and in most cases no insulation or protective films are needed.
- Environmentally friendly – polyurethane foam is recognised as one of the most environmentally friendly insulation materials.
- Not only does it have no harmful components and does not pollute the environment, but it is also non-fogging, non-moulding and non-smouldering.

What is polyurethane or polyurethane spray foam?

Invented in the 1950s, polyurethane foam (thermoplastic foam) is the most effective insulation product on the market today. Polyurethane foam not only provides maximum thermal insulation and strengthens the structures of the buildings it is used to insulate, but it also does not lose its properties for at least half a century. It is the fastest-paying investment for insulating walls, floors, roofs, slabs, foundations or industrial buildings, as well as cars, communications and piping. Spray polyurethane foam is a unique insulation material whose best properties are determined by its structure. Polyurethane is made up of millions of pores that firmly set in seconds to form a seamless, uniform, seamless layer, guaranteeing the best indoor thermal insulation, moisture and sound resistance. The polyurethane layer has a conductivity of just 0.022 w/mK, giving buildings excellent insulation and saving money on the material (in comparison, a 10-20 cm thick layer of polyurethane foam is sufficient to achieve the same thermal insulation result and meet today’s thermal resistance requirements. Other – traditional – insulation materials require a layer twice as thick).
Polyurethane closed pore technology
Closed-cell polyurea technology (CCP) is a modern and efficient insulation material that has recently gained increasing attention due to its outstanding properties and advantages. This technology is well suited for a wide range of industries and for use in the home, particularly where reliable and durable insulation is required.
What is polyurethane closed-cell technology?
Polyurea is a special polymer obtained by mixing isocyanate and amine compounds. When these two components are combined, a highly durable and resistant material is formed. Polyurea Closed Pore Technology is characterised by closed pores in its structure, which give the material its special insulating properties.
Advantages of polyurethane closed-pore technology.
- High insulation quality: polyurethane provides excellent heat and cold retention thanks to its closed-pore structure. This means buildings with this insulation stay warm in winter and cool in summer, saving energy costs.
- Moisture resistance: The closed-pore structure of polyurethane is waterproof, making it the ideal solution for wet areas or where there is a high risk of water ingress.
- Durability and strength: Polyurethane is highly resistant to chemical attack, ultraviolet light and physical damage. This means that this insulation will last for many years without any signs of wear.
- Quick installation: Polyurethane closed-cell insulation can be installed quickly and easily, reducing working time and labour costs.
- Environmentally friendly: Polyurethane is free of harmful substances and does not emit toxic gases, making it safe and environmentally friendly.
Areas of application
Polyurethane closed pore technology is very versatile and can be used in a wide range of applications:
- Roof and wall insulation: Provides excellent thermal and moisture insulation.
- Insulation for industrial buildings: protects against extreme temperatures and chemicals.
- Insulation of water tanks and pipelines: water resistance makes it an ideal solution.
- Automotive and marine industry: Used as a protective coating and insulation.
ThermoPro polyurethane spray foam (Thermofoam):
- A long-lasting solution – polyurethane foam does not normally lose its properties and lasts around 50 years, in some cases even longer. When sprayed onto the surface to be insulated, polyurethane strengthens and reinforces structures.
- It is a cost-effective choice – it saves money on materials during the insulation process, eliminates the need for additional work and reduces heating bills by maximising the building’s airtightness.
- Environmentally friendly and health-protective technology – polyurethane is environmentally friendly, free of harmful components, does not rot, does not fog and does not pollute the environment.
- Versatile technology – spray polyurethane adheres well to any surface: wood, concrete, metal. When sprayed on surfaces, the polyurethane expands up to 100 times and evenly fills all cracks and voids in structures of all shapes and sizes.
- A time-saving option, polyurethane foam insulation works very quickly: a professional team can insulate up to 200 m2 per day and no special preparation of the surfaces to be insulated is required.
Conclusion
Polyurethane closed-cell technology is a modern and efficient solution that provides high insulation quality, durability and resistance. Its versatility and applicability make it an increasingly popular material in both industrial and domestic applications. Investing in polyurea is an investment in the future, providing reliable protection and energy savings.
